Intex Custom Homes To Participate in Habitat For Humanity Blitz

(Portland, OR) - Award-winning builder Intex Custom Homes will donate its time and materials to construct a four-bedroom Craftsman-style home during an intensive one-week period during this year's Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz.

The blitz, a nationwide event started in 2002 in an effort to eliminate poverty housing, will take place May 31 through June 6. Intex is one of five builders participating in the Portland event. The others are Buena Vista Custom Homes, Fish Construction NW, LHL Homes and Schumacher Custom Homes. Each company will build one home, all of which will be adjacent to each other on S.E. 80th Ave. and Ogden St. Every home will be built to Energy Star standards. The Intex home will be both Energy Star and Earth Advantage certified.

"We feel truly privileged to be part of this event," said Intex president Joe Bauschelt. "We're also extremely grateful for the response we've gotten from our suppliers and subcontractors. We just got on the phone and started calling people, and it's amazing how many said they would take part."

The value of donated time and materials for the Intex home is expected to be $150,000, Bauschelt said.

Habitat for Humanity solicits applications twice a year from prospective homeowners. Recipients are determined based on need; their willingness to contribute 500 hours of sweat equity either helping to construct their own home or that of other Habitat for Humanity recipients; and their ability to carry a zero-percent mortgage.

"With this program, a single mom with three kids can afford to be a home owner," said Shannon Tennant, development director of organized giving for Habitat's Portland office.

Intex, winner of numerous excellence awards including green building, is known for environmentally sensitive, energy efficient Arts & Crafts-style homes. It's most recent neighborhood, Indigo Ridge on Cooper Mountain in Washington County, opened this spring. All of the 37 Indigo Ridge homes exceed Earth Advantage standards.
